As a two-time winner of Stratford & District Chamber Business Excellence Awards, the YMCA is a registered charity and has been an active part of this community since 1869, providing opportunities for personal growth in spirit, mind and body and service to others in an environment open to all.

To build a better, healthier community the Y provides: health related and wellness programs for all ages at Health and Fitness sites; Summer Day Camps and meals, support and counselling at two Youth Centres. The Y is the largest provider of child care in Perth County supporting families with licensed YMCA Early Learning and Development Centres and YMCA School Age Programs and Extended Day JK/SK Programs. The Y makes new Canadians welcome in the community by providing YMCA Immigrant Services as a ‘first stop’ for newcomers to support their process of settlement. And it organizes the Stratford-Perth YMCA Volleyball League for some 116 teams each year. Swim lessons are synonymous with our local Y.

Over 10,000 individuals across Stratford-Perth annually use the Y. Last year alone, about one in three Y users received financial assistance to participate in its programs and activities representing an investment of over $550,000 toward individuals right here in our neighbourhood.

St Marys: Perth-Wellington Federal Candidates Debate

In keeping with the Stratford & District Chamber of Commerce’s objective to promote good government and sound legislation at all levels of government, the Chamber will be hosting a Perth-Wellington Federal Candidate’s Debate for the upcoming federal election with a goal to:

  • Focus candidates on issues important to the business community
  • Inform voters and our members
  • Promote transparency and accountability among elected officials.

You are invited to the September 30th debate being held at the Pyramid Recreation Centre in St Marys from 6:00-9:00 P.M.  Doors open at 6 for a meet and greet with the candidates.  The debate itself will start promptly at 7:00 and we expect to be wrapped up by 9:00.

Eddie Matthews, General Manager of the Stratford & District Chamber of Commerce, will be the moderator for the evening.  Matthews is a well-known and trusted voice in our local community.  We are confident in his ability to moderate the debate in a way that is fair and respectful to all candidates.

There is no advance registration for this event. It is open to all, but space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis at the Pyramid Recreation Centre in St Marys, 317 James St South.

The Multicultural Association of Perth-Huron has been providing support and settlement services to newcomers in our community since 2011. This organization is largely run by volunteers dedicated to assisting immigrants and refugees find a warm welcome, essential information, and a sense of belonging in Huron-Perth. This fall, MAPH will enter its 9th season serving newcomers in Huron-Perth from their office in Stratford. They believe the growing diversity of the region creates strong and vibrant communities and is something we should celebrate.
